AmeriCorp's 2004 Food Drive Will Feed Hundreds
SYOSSET , NY- November 24, 2004

Visitors to AmeriCorp’s offices during the month of November might have thought that they had stumbled into a warehouse stocked with food and health items in the thousands. All the goods were actually donations from AmeriCorp personnel and the employees of two neighboring businesses. As in previous years, a drive had been conducted to assist the Education & Assistance Corporation’s Meals-on-Wheels Program. Operating since the early 90’s, this program delivers meals for both homebound senior citizens and persons with HIV+/AIDS who are too ill to cook and shop for themselves. Dependent children are also fed through the program.

Last year’s delivery amounted to over 13,000 pieces, and Tim McCallan challenged donors to add another 5,000 on top of that total in the 2004 drive. When the 17-foot rental truck departed for EAC, however, its stowage space was filled with a consignment that actually totaled over 25,000. In addition to the massive cargo of canned and packaged goods, the company sent along a healthy cash donation commensurate with the generosity of the employees. Although the food pantry staff is accustomed to the annual outpouring, they were thrilled and awestruck by this year’s bounty. A letter of thanks from the corporation’s CEO informed us that the nutritious food we had brought to their empty shelves would keep hundreds of people fed over the coming months. “Thanks to your community spirit and drive,’ the letter continued, “the 2004 food drive is the most successful we’ve ever had.”

The community has thus come to rely on the giving nature of AmeriCorp’s entire staff, just as AmeriCorp’s clients depend on its corporate business values – values that arise from the same well of energy and reliability as the employees’ charity. The company looks forward to Tim’s challenge for Thanksgiving 2005 with the same eagerness that it awaits the business challenges in the coming New Year.
