AmeriCorp’s 2005 Food Drive – Thousands Will Be Fed
SYOSSET, NY – November 23, 2005

For the fourth year in a row, AmeriCorp and its neighbors collected an incredible amount of food donations from their employees, all destined for the Education & Assistance Corporation’s Meals-on-Wheels Program. Over the past fifteen years, the program has been delivering prepared meals and little bit of company to homebound senior citizens and to persons who are so ill with HIV+/AIDS that they cannot cook or shop for themselves. The EAC also sees that dependent children are fed.

The employees matched last year’s amazing total of 25,000 items. In his thank you, EAC’s CEO told the donors that, although “we are hundreds of miles away from New Orleans, charities like EAC’s Meals on Wheels programs have felt the effects of hurricane Katrina as donations to Long Island charities diminished. At the same time our phone continues to ring with requests from very old and sick homebound senior citizens and people suffering from HIV/AIDS. The food drive on November 23rd stocked our shelves, and your generous check will help us to purchase much needed food for those whose age and health have left them very much alone. This holiday season and throughout the coming year, thousands of needy people will be fed.”
