AmeriCorp Celebrates Second Annual Values Day
SYOSSET , NY- September 26, 2003

A little over a year ago, AmeriCorp went public with an internal values system imbued with professional ethics. The system is posted on the company website for all to see, and there can be no doubt that the constant affirmation of these values in the workplace has been instrumental in leading the company to a speedy yet well-earned ISO certification. To celebrate and reinforce the guiding strength of its corporate values, AmeriCorp has instituted an annual festival in which each value becomes the inspiration for an event or routine performed by the employees and emceed by their supervisors.

Nine teams of employees, each named after one of the values, compete throughout the day. For this year’s Values Day, the games committee found ingenious ways to use familiar game shows as illustrations of values: for instance, Family Feud celebrated Reliability; Pictionary promoted Communication; the Millionaire game, Motivation. Each team produced a video commercial to illustrate Pride while Karaoke singers belted out tributes to Respect. A scavenger hunt, banner competition, and lego assembly race were analogs for Efficiency, Optimism, and Initiative. A nerve-wracking water balloon toss symbolized Accountability. Midway through all of these friendly competitions, the employees -- often separated by departmental responsibilities -- mingled at a barbeque lunch and then continued to work closely together on teams that were an intentional mix of customer service with financial services, data entry with agency services, and so on.

Values Day was a morning and afternoon devoted to bonding not only with fellow employees but also with the values that have defined and distinguished AmeriCorp.
